To Krista, every woman is a lioness —fierce, nurturing, gentle,
and completely capable. Her jewelry absorbs and reflects that opinion,
celebrating femininity of With incredible energy she works to adorn women with her magical creations, not shy to remind them that by honoring themselves as a female they honor all women past, present and future. Inspired by West Africa in design flair, Krista also derives a deep sense of mission and purpose from that community of women. She explains, "Women there walk with a clear internal sense of her intrinsic beauty," -- something she feels is sorely lacking here in the West. She also absorbs how the women uphold each other in esteem: "They cherish each other, and truly create a community of support. Women and girls act as does a pride of lionesses - in tune with their sisterhood, not catty." Krista continues, "There is a different emphasis on beauty in West Africa, on being a lovely person. It is a maternal culture and they nurture each other. Moreover, they tangibly show their appreciation of self - females from 2 to 92, tall to short, heavy to thin, adorn themselves with waist beads and jewelry. Even the poorest hand-strings nuts and shells or whatever they can find. They relish in their femininity." It is this celebration of being a female qua female, the deposing of body image, and the celebration and adornment of their very nature that Krista transfers into her jewelry and hopes to impart to American women. |
